Construction Industry and Utility Safety Guidelines for COVID-19

No industry is exempt from COVID-19, including us. However, we do want our clients, customers, team members and employees to know that we are doing everything we can to keep our team and our customers safe.

This summer the Electricity Subsector Coordinating Council (ESCC) published a resource guide for the utility industry in response to COVID-19. The ESCC is comprised of executives from public power utilities, electric companies, trade association leaders and federal government workers.

In their guide, they made a recommendation for firms to create contract tracing programs within their company to help identify employees who may have been exposed to the virus.

They also stated that companies should consider:

  • Increased hygiene measures
  • Planning for employees to telework if possible
  • Planning for sequestering critical facilities
  • Assessing stockpiles of critical materials such as personal protective equipment and critical equipment to the job(s)
  • Instituting foreign travel restrictions if needed
  • Increasing communication between employees and customers or partners

OSHA also stated the importance of staying informed of changes in outbreak conditions, including to the community spread of the virus and testing availability.

Safe Work Practices

We are committed to the safety of our electricians and customers to the extent that all workers on a work site are screened for signs and symptoms of COVID-19, including temperature checks.

We have different requirements and safety measures depending on customer guild lines and practices. We have office employees wear masks while they are out of their individual offices and encourage electronic communications. All job sites and office spaces are equipped with hand sanitizers and sanitizing wipes as well.
